The word “diet” is one of my least favorite words. With it typically come thoughts of deprivation, restriction, and past failures. On the other hand I am aware of health conscious people’s constant search for the perfect diet. I realize that people like to have a plan and guidelines to follow that will bring them success in meeting their goals.
While many “diets” are nothing more than one person’s opinion or a way to sell books or products, there are some that are well-supported by scientific evidence to have many health benefits. So, over the next month or so I have decided to do a series highlighting a few of my favorite healthy eating plans.
There are five plans that are standouts in my opinion and have a good amount of scientific evidence to support them. These are: plant-based diets, a Mediterranean diet, the D.A.S.H. diet, an anti-inflammatory diet, and the Volumetrics diet.
Want to lose weight, prevent cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and live longer? These diets may be your ticket.
I will share what foods these plans include, their health benefits, and tips on how to incorporate them.
Not terribly surprisingly, you will probably notice some overlap in the kinds of foods that are included, hopefully reinforcing even more that those particular foods should be at the top of your priority list when it comes to eating and reaping the benefits food can provide. First up, plant-based diets. Stay tuned!
