Fall and Spring in Tallahassee are perfect times to get out and get active. One particularly special event coming up soon is the Run For Lawson 1 mile, 5K, or 10K on November 1st.  This event is near and dear to my heart and I highly encourage you to get out and experience it.

Lawson Mayfield was a sweet, smart, adventurous, beautiful, and very loved young lady who passed suddenly at the age of 18 after contracting pneumococcal meningitis.  The run, in it’s fourth year this year, was organized by Lawson’s family to honor her memory.  Proceeds from the event support the National Meningitis Association (NMA) and bring awareness to bacterial meningitis prevention.  To date the event has raised more than $100,000 for the NMA.

You don’t have to be a “runner” to participate.  You can walk, jog, or run if you like.  This is one run/walk that my whole family and I wouldn’t miss.  The whole event is top notch and is really one of the most beautiful settings for any activity.  It is at Welaunee Plantation located right behind Holy Comforter.  The chip-timed cross-country course dips and winds through stately live oaks and meadow land making for a picturesque morning.

From the start of the race when balloons are released to honor Lawson’s memory up until the last runner/walker crosses the finish line the support of family and friends who knew and loved Lawson is evident.

It is a family event that anyone of any age and fitness level can do. Just pick your course – 1 mile, 5K, or 10K. For easy online registration visit www.RunForLawson.org. Online registration closes at midnight Monday, October 27, 2014.

See you there!
